After being prototyped by Semie Moseley for Standel it appeared first as „Joe Maphis model“, soon to become „The Ventures model“.

1964 brought some major changes: The neck was bolted to the body with four screws that were hidden by a peanut shaped neck plate, the body binding was deleted and the output jack moved from the body’s side on the pickguard.

Around January 1965 after ca. 1000 copies the pickup covers were changed from deep-drawn to injection molded plastic with recessed mosrite logo and the pickup rings from cast resin (epoxy or polyester) to injection molded plastic, too. A little later around s/n 1200 the only screw covering neckplate was replaced with one that was bolted with the neckscrews (slotted). The pickup logo got a raised ® sign added. On July 10, 1965 ink stamping of body and neck started (around s/n 1400, rough guess), around the same time the neck screws were switched to Phillips.

In late 1965 the Vibramute vibrato was replaced with the die cast Moseley, first without the patent number. Around the same time the low M-knobs (V and T, 1 to 5) appeared, soon to be replaced with the taller ones (0 to 5).

From spring 1966 on the trussrod was not adjusted at the neck heel but on the headstock. Around the same time the Moseley vibrato got its patent number. Ink stamped dates were cut down October 1966 at the latest

Finally the Ventures headstock logo got deleted and late 1968 brought final savings with the use of the rectangular japanese tuners instead of the Klusons and the deletion of the neck plate in favor of cheap ferrules and even only three neck screws.
